Article: Why You Won’t Find Us on Amazon

Why You Won’t Find Us on Amazon
At Robeworks, people often ask why we don’t list our robes on Amazon. Or any other reselling platform.
The answer is simple. We believe in doing business the right way, with a clear line of transparency from the thread to the customer.
And that actually matters. Here's why.
1. We’re Made in the USA. 100 Percent.
Our robes are cut, sewn, embroidered, and packed in Los Angeles by people who’ve spent years mastering their craft. These are skilled workers. These are tailors, seamstresses, and artisans who take pride in every piece they produce. Keeping production in California isn’t the easy option, and it goes without saying (but we'll say it anyways), especially in today's economy. But this decision is the right one.
When you shop directly from Robeworks.com, your purchase helps sustain real jobs in a city we care about. That money goes into paychecks, not shareholder reports. It keeps American manufacturing alive, and it gives our team a reason to stay in the trade. We don't operate on volume (maybe we should?), we operate on quality. We believe that there's a group of consumers who do really want something special, even if it means that things coming
2. It's not about
We’ve looked into selling on multiple platforms. The math doesn’t work for many small businesses, let alone ones that are operating privately and aren't overseas. On average, a business loses 30-35% of their revenue per sale when they use a marketplace. And if you’re not paying to advertise, you won’t be seen, meaning thousands of dollars of inventory sitting in a warehouse, likely mishandled, packed poorly, and then thrown on your doorstep
That might be fine for companies importing cheap products from overseas. It doesn’t work for a brand built on quality, care, and a willingness to ship the best.
We think the value created by skilled labor should stay with the people who make the product. That’s how we’ve always run our business, and we don’t plan to change that. We know our robes are not the cheapest, but that's because it goes back into the labor, the product, and keeping the business running. 80% of small businesses in America are gone within 20 years, and we're at 30. We want to keep going, and your support is what keeps us there.
3. You’ll Talk to a Real Person Here
We don’t outsource support. We don’t use bots. We don’t rely on AI to manage our inbox. When you reach out to Robeworks, you’re talking to someone on our small team in Los Angeles. We read your message. We write back ourselves.
Sometimes we’re a little slower than the big companies. We don't always have the answers, and sometimes we'll make a spelling mistake or two. We're not perfect, but that's because we're human. And that means things get lost in the shuffle.
We are trying to get better, but we also know getting to talk to real people is the right thing. We take the time to get it right. We want your robe to be perfect, and we want your experience with us to reflect that same level of care.
4. This Company Is About More Than a Sale
Robeworks isn’t just a company. It’s a long-term commitment to American manufacturing, skilled labor, and customer relationships that last. We’re not trying to be the fastest or the biggest. When Robeworks started 30 years ago, it was on a mission to create the best robe. The current Robeworks team all work here due to their love of design, apparel, and giving the customer a unique experience. We’re trying to be the best at what we do.
2025 was a hard year to be a manufacturer in America, and especially Los Angeles. We had many things impact not just the city but the team that makes Robeworks really work. Fires started the year, displacing some of our employees. Unhealthy conditions meant we had to wait weeks to bring the team back in. Next, federal pressure in Los Angeles and the accompanying protest meant there were days that whole parts of the city city didn't go to the office. It's not about politics, it's about facts. And we believe in a safe, honest workspace for our team.
Even through all those challenges, we persisted and believed that bringing apparel manufacturing back to America is the RIGHT thing. When you buy from us, you're buying into that belief. You’re supporting real jobs and honest craftsmanship. You’re investing in something made to last, not made to sell fast. We're not here to be cheap, and we know you can find a cheaper robe that will arrive tomorrow. But we're the only business we know that does what we do. And we won't change.
Final Thoughts
We're not anti-Amazon or against any business that can sell on it effectively. For many, it's their best and only avenue, and their business would grow easily because of it. And we know it would be easier to list on Amazon. But that would come at a cost to our values, our workers, and the kind of business we’re trying to build. That’s not a trade we’re willing to make.
You can always find us right here. That’s where we’ll be. Making robes. One at a time. The right way.
